Akismet plugin is different from other anti-spam plugins. It is a live plugin. It check user comments by using the live web server. This plugin is connected with an online server  and whenever someone adds a comments, it just make a connection with its server and check the content of the comment depending upon the words and links, it marks the comment as spam or non-spam.

To run this plugin, first you need to activate it by going to your plugin section.

After activation, Under Plugin menu, you will see Akismet Configuration option. Click on it and enter your API key and save it. Your plugin is now fully ready to fight against spam.

How to get Akismet API key?

To get an API key, you need to create a new blog account on WordPress.com. Under your WordPress.com blog Admin area in your Profile (under Users), you can get the API key.

Remember that this API key is just like a password to you and it is unique for each WordPress.com blog.

Now after this, everything is done. You are now protected from internet spam.
