What is the real importance of a PageRank

I am hearing about Google PageRank for the last 2 years on many forums. Different people have different views. So I thought I must add some more information to it.

PageRank (PR) is a quite popular term among webmaster. Google uses 200 factors to rank webpages on the search result and PR is one of them. Its true that good content is the key to success.

Yesterday I was reading Matt Cutts interview by Eric and learned many good important points.

“… the number of pages that we crawl is roughly proportional to your PageRank”

So it means higher the PR faster and deeper will be the crawling. Other thing is that 301 permanent redirect actually passes PR value but there could be some loss.

And if your are using JavaScript code to create hyperlinks then make sure that these links should be nofollow to prevent the flow of a value.

Many other important things are also discussed like duplicate content, execution of basic javascripts. So its better to read this interview.

I think, PR doesn’t affect the blog’s trafic.

Its true it doesn’t affect much but still it plays its game. :)

  4. PR will help to determine the quality of the blog, so the advertisers will consider about it right? :D

  5. abhi says:

Yeah it is used by some advertisers but I think they need to change view.

  6. Tinh says:

PR is the #1 ranking factor for any blogger, you can forget alexa but you can not ignore PR :-)

  7. Tricks tips says:

Im waiting eagerly for the PR update..

  8. There is a big difference between pagerank and the pagerank toolbar
page rank is updated all the time by google and this affects your ratings in the search engines constantly. The toolbar on the other hand, is just a glimse of your link backs at the moment the update date occurs.

With this said, it’s vital to build your quality link backs, but don’t stress out about what the toolbar reflects. Although it’s always nice when it does increase as it shows your link back campaigns are paying off

Let’s see what the next update brings. Should be in the next couple days / weeks
