Twitter is a craze and this craze has reached new heights with millions of tweets and retweets every day.
According to Twitter official blog, now they are getting around 50 Million new tweets per day.

Kevin, the Twitter analytic team member has recently published these amazing stats on twitter blog. In 2007, it was around 5,000 tweets per day and in 2008, it was around 300,000.

The above graph says everything itself. Now, on an average 600 tweets per seconds. It is very interesting. People are getting more crazy about twitter. Google Buzz still needs to compete to reach such milestones.

So you can amazing yourself the condition of Twitter server. I must say Twitter has a very robust design. Its very difficult about the future tweets stats. The way it is increasing, I think soon it will cross the Billion mark. I make around 7 tweets everyday.
