Mobilizing successful diaspora movements is necessary, which is both a challenge and essential in the present climate. Developed countries are showing greater interests and providing new opportunities in engaging diaspora communities as more and more diaspora members are returning to their homeland and using the available opportunities in the development sector. These members need a platform to work out a common plan of action. It is important to motivate the diaspora organizations and their members to inform and support the international process of development. There is a need to build upon the existing momentum for a viable and sustainable action.

Collaborating with your peers

There is a critical need for collaboration between individuals and groups. Organizations need to work closely for becoming much stronger and visible while adding more value to their contribution. There is greater sharing of ideas, experiences and strategies among the diaspora members.

Creating a clear set of goals

Diaspora organizations have a better understanding of their homeland and are often better placed to shape developmental goals that can meet the country of their origin as well as their host countries. There must be enough evidence of need, target, and context for developing clear goals for any strategy.

Defining a strategy and ambitions

It is important to have a clear strategy for achieving goal. Strategy should exist that is based on a clear analysis of the environment and context both among diaspora organizations as well as those outside. There could be instances where selecting the best strategy for a diverse group will need a strong leadership and compromise to direct and steer the process.

Engaging with your target audience

Considering the existence of different audiences and the different levels of operations, diaspora organizations will find it a challenge to engage with the wider diaspora. There must be an agenda that people can commit themselves. A need to conduct an analysis of stakeholder should be there so that the opinions of the wider stakeholder group and in particular the key players are considered.

Sharing experiences, skills and learning

To achieve a strong leadership and engagement, it is important to ensure that individuals are informed and skilled and they must be confident in executing a high standard of services. To help in building the ability to grow, there must be a platform for learning and sharing of experiences. Those who take part in training program can share with others the training they have undergone and learned, undertake different key activities related to the training and adapt the right model necessary to the different audiences.

Building a reliable support network

It is important to reach out to other diaspora organizations and individuals for better sharing of challenges faced, identify the various opportunities available and developing effective strategies for success.
