The Android OS is steadily spreading it's dominance over the smartphone market, but to find out which phone reigns supreme, you're going to have to look for the newest one available. That's where the Samsung Nexus S comes into play. This is a review for the new Nexus S Android Smartphone, one thing to note is that this phone is made by Samsung, and not HTC like the Nexus One. The Nexus S comes with the newest version of Android 2.3 called Gingerbread, which is the fastest version available at the moment. It's also equipped with a 1 GHZ Hummingbird Processor, 16 GB internal storage, 512 MBs of RAM, 5 megapixel rear and VGA front facing camera to share videos or images. I should also note that the Nexus S does not come with an SD slot like other models.
After turning it on and using it, I can already tell this is much more fluid than previous Android phones. All the applications, including web browsing and menu tabs are very responsive with virtually no lag time. It's about the closest you can get to the responsiveness of the iPhone. They've also made some great improvements to the UI, and changed up menu a bit along with refinements to the QWERTY keyboard interface, which makes it easier to type, copy and paste messages. After using the Nexus S for a while, the battery life faired pretty well in heavy use of applications, and it lasted almost an entire day without charging.
The case is made from a high-gloss black plastic coating, and it feels fairly lightweight and sleek. Samsung seems to be sticking to using the lightweight plastic to make their phones with. Almost the entire front of the phone makes up the screen and it's supposedly the first phone to feature a contour display, which is a curved glass screen that fits comfortably in your hands and along the side of you face. It is a slight curve, so you won't be able to tell too much of a difference.
The 4″ inch Super AMOLED display is pretty impressive, you can really notice the colors popping out of the screen as you use it. Apart from it's faster processor and Gingerbread OS, the Nexus S doesn't offer too many new features, but it's an overall solid phone because it's without a doubt one of the best Android powered phones available right now. Best Buy exclusively has the Nexus S for sale on December 16th for 199 when you get a 2-year contract with T-Mobile, and 529 for an unlocked version.
