There are two surefire ways of raising the cuteness factor of pretty much any random thing ever; things that are absurdly small and things that are absurdly big. This is why baby shoes can make women coo for hours, and a giant chair can bring flocks of people to view the ‘art'.

One of the easiest ways to create giant works of paper art is through a device called the plotter. The plotter, also known as the wide format printer, is essentially a giant printer that uses rolls instead of sheets of paper. By using rolls, the plotter has an almost unlimited capacity to create posters, banners, and wrapping paper in quantities that can engulf an entire building.

Plotters are mostly used for boring business purposes. But if this tool were to ever wind up in the wrong (or right) hands, it could do some major damage. Not sure if your particular hands are up to the challenge?

Here are just a few great ideas to get you started.

  1. Create a Wanted Poster with a picture of your prankee and hang it on a highway over pass that people who know him or her drive past on a regular basis. Plotters have the option of using a tougher paper roll, which will make this more durable, though not quite water-proof.
  2. Gift Wrap a building. This one takes a bit of planning, and maybe a friend or two. But a plotter can spew out rolls of a pattern over and over again, at a fairly quick pace. And what you end up with is a gain roll of wrapping paper. If you are willing to get up early enough on your bosses birthday, you can sneak to work early and gift wrap his business for him. I hope he loves it, he sure makes you work hard for it.
  3. Create mock movie posters and hang them up at the movie theatre, in front of the real ones. Make them only slightly different. Maybe Dakota Fanning has a speech bubble, and maybe she's not saying anything particularly nice. Maybe Charlie Sheen has a thought bubble, and he's actually a really polite guy. Make it just enough for people to do a double-take.
  4. Create something giant, for no reason in a random place. People will flock to try to understand it. One guy created a giant chair in the middle of a field. Told you people like giant stuff.

For those of you who are pranksters at heart, a plotter could be a good investment for you. Not only is it set up for the perfect prank props, but it also can make you a free pirated copy of whatever movie poster you don't particularly feel like dropping 50 bucks for. Seriously, movie posters cost 50 bucks. Plotters are becoming more and more prominent in the business world for this very same reason, outsourced printing is just too high-cost. Life is the same, when outsourcing printing needs like this cost so much, having plotters of your own sure does seem more desirable.
