By now, a lot of people are familiar with making money online. Many more people are now used to affiliate marketing. Many big companies use affiliates to help them market their wares. Amazon and eBay, two big online sellers, both have their own programs for which you can sign up.

But, you say, how does it all work? How do I get credited for my sale? How do they know?

Unless you have studied computers and programming, you may not be all too familiar with all the technicalities. But don't let that scare you. You have probably come across some very strange words like ‘cookies' and ‘tracking pixels.' Many computer programmers will explain these terms using more technical terms which probably does not help you.

To explain it simply, cookies and tracking pixels are your friends. When you use these, they send a signal back to the main computer letting them know that the user's computer has just clicked through your link and that whatever orders they make should be credited to you. This is a nutshell is how affiliate marketing works.

All you need to do to make money is to let people know about all your links and have them click through and purchase through those. When you begin, you will be bombarded with so many suggestions that you feel like your head's about to explode. Don't let that happen. Browse through your options and pick one way of getting traffic and stick to it until you master it. Then you can move on to other methods.
