Dell's Axim X51 is a mid-sized model that measures 73 mm x 119 mm x 17 mm, and weighs about 181 grams. It has a TFT active matrix display screen of 3.7 inches, the resolution of which is 480 x 640 pixels. The display of the screen is absolutely awesome, as it is equipped with an Intel Marathon 2700 G graphics accelerator, which offers 16 MB video RAM VGA output.

The processor, of Dell Axim X51 Pocket PC is the Intel XScale PXA270 of 624 MHz (with WMMX). And the operating system on which it runs is the Windows Mobile 5.0. The memory specifications of the device are also quite impressive. It offers flash ROM of 256 MB, of which 195 MB is available for storage purposes) and RAM of 64 MB. However, as per requirement, a user may further expand the memory with either of the following options- CompactFlash Type II or with the use of memory cards. In regard to the memory card too, one has 3 options i.e. Secure Digital Memory Card, SDIO Now memory card and MMC memory card.

For wireless connectivity, this device makes two interface options available. One is the integrated Bluetooth 1.2, which allows sending and receiving data from other Bluetooth enabled devices, like laptops or phones. The other option is the 802.11b Wi-Fi, for easy connectivity and use of the internet. It comes with the WM8750 audio processor and an impressive video play back. It also offers a number of great games including Tennis Addict, Ancient Evil, Bejeweled 2 and Arvale, among others.

The device comes loaded with great software. Its package of software comprises of WLAN, Funk Odyssey VPN client, VGA 3D game Enigmo by Aspyr, Battery Pack Lite, Resco Picture Viewer as well a file explorer. Being a Windows based mobile it obviously also offers the Windows Mobile applications including PowerPoint, Excel as well as MS Word. A major advantage of this device is its satellite navigator, Dell Navigator sat nav. The Europe and UK are entirely covered, and one can select the country of choice to view its maps. It allows swift and easy setting up of routes.

The battery included with the Axim X51 is a lithium-ion battery which is user replacable. Its backup is somewhat of a disappointment; the battery may last for as less as only a few hours, depending on the kind of application being used.
